North Carolina sportsbooks handled the second-highest amount in state history in November – $657.7 million – a 7.5 percent increase on the amount generated in October, new data shows.
It also was the second-highest monthly sports betting revenue in the state, with sportsbooks generating $78.1 million, a 60.5 percent month-over-month increase.
That monthly increase in revenues is so stark because North Carolina is one of several states like New York that saw positive month-over-month handle growth in October but huge drops in revenues thanks to bettor-friendly sports results, especially in the NFL.
The revenue and sports betting handle totals were the highest recorded in North Carolina in fiscal year 2025, which started in July. The North Carolina State Lottery Commission collected almost $14.1 million in taxes from the revenues.
Early estimates in North Carolina suggested the state’s sports betting industry could be worth up to $1 billion, and November’s results help push this idea. With five months of reporting in fiscal year 2025, the state has generated almost $272.3 million in revenue. However, that period includes two months without the most significant betting sport in the United States, the NFL, and three months without the NBA and NHL
