The city of Peoria is getting serious about trying to land the Par-A-Dice casino somewhere within its city limits.
But it’ll cost them money and it appears, based upon an agenda item for Tuesday night’s council meeting that the City Council is ready to open its pocketbook and lay a bet they can beat the house.
At issue tonight is whether the Horseshoe should spend tens of thousands of dollars for an attorney and a consultant to plan for negotiations with the casino’s parent company, Boyd Gaming.
The riverboat casino has been docked in East Peoria since 1993. The two cities had reached an agreement in 1991 whereby Peoria would have the gambling for two years until East Peoria had a facility built for the boat. Then, it would move there.
