Daniel Negreanu took down his fourth trophy of the year last night, scooping event #6 of the PokerGO PLO Series for his third cash of the series after toppling Alex Foxen in heads-up play.
While Europe’s finest are battling it out in Cyprus at the EPT, the US-based highstakes crew have been having four-card fun in Las Vegas, the PokerGO Studios in the Aria once again playing host.
The third of the $10k events saw 104 entries, a tidy $1,040,000 prizepool, and 15 paid spots. Jesse Lonis was the bubble boy, which left the remaining players with $20,800 locked up.
Among them, Ike Haxton fresh off a win in event #5, though he’d fail to improve on 15th this time, Joni Jouhkimainen (13th for $26,000), David “Chino” Rheem (9th for $31,200) and Sean Winter (8th for $41,600).
The final table of six was equally stacked, if not more: Negreanu was joined by chip leader Alex Foxen, with Jeremy Ausmus, Nick Schulman, Nacho Barbero on middling stacks, and Matthew Wantman seriously short.
It was the voluble Barbero who’d depart first, though, as his aces were cracked by Foxen’s kings, despite the Argentinian holding a king himself. An hour or so later and it was Schulman all-in and at risk…
Schulman: J♥ J♦ 3♥ 2♦
Negreanu: 9♠ 7♠ 7♣ 3♣
Flop: 5♠ 4♥ 3♦
Turn: 6♣
…and Schulman’s night was over before the river fell…
River: K♠
Jeremy Ausmus was next to make his stand, down to just 10 bigs, but again Negreanu was there to ruin his day with no need of the river card.
Ausmus: A♣ K♣ 8♠ 3♣
Negreanu: K♦ J♣ 10♠ 7♠
Flop: 9♦ J♠ 3♦
Turn: J♦
River: 6♣
Wantman had done well to ladder up to third, but he’d go no further, Negreanu again the executioner, flopping top and bottom against middle pair and turning the house.
Heads-up, with a 3:1 chip lead over Foxen, Negreanu never looked in trouble and finished things off in style… or a cooler for Foxen, take your pick!

“Well, I loved it. It’s like a group of friends of mine. Part of the reason I come down here is to hang out with these guys because they’re so cool,” DNegs explained after his win.
“And to be able to execute the way that I did… I thought I played incredibly well. There was a couple of key spots I had to go for against Foxen and I did and they worked out.”
“Other than that, I ran good and that’s what it takes to win a tournament.”
There was no rest for Negreanu following his victory, straight into event #7 with a 7th place finish worth $38,400, the final table set for today.
The $25k buy-in PokerGO PLO Championship also kicks off this afternoon and the series will culminate in the $100k buy-in PLO Super High Roller Bowl later this week.
